The SteriSpace™ technology was developed in a series of programs funded by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD). The technology was originally designed to mitigate possible bio-terrorism risks in government buildings. The technology has been shown to achieve a 6-log reduction against diverse biological challenges, including bacterial spores, a vegetative bacterium, viruses, and even an anthrax simulant.For general building applications, integrating into HVAC systems of office buildings can clean the air, leading to healthier and happier employees and increased energy savings (if the heat energy produced by the unit is used to defray heating costs in the cold winter months).

The poultry industry in the U.S. annually raises more than 10 billion animals annually, providing a collective farm value greater than $20 billion. Poultry operations cause environmental problems, with the release of more than four billion pounds of ammonia annually, a greenhouse gas. Moreover, hydrogen sulfide gases, released from the feces produced by dense populations of livestock, has an impact on the farm workers. All these airborne contaminants and odors often leak from these buildings and affect the air quality in the surrounding communities. Prolonged exposure to these noxious gases by farm workers can cause allergic, toxic and inflammatory responses, burning sensation in the eyes, itchy nose, headaches, dizziness, and respiratory problems.

Studies have also noted that micro bacteria from fecal matter has the tendency to aerosolize and accumulate in the air of the building. Currently, many places ventilate this air to the outdoors, which once again, severely impacts ambient air quality in areas around the facility.

Using the SteriSpace technology may profoundly reduce the concentration of these contaminants in the indoor air, reducing its burden on workers, reducing its effects on the environment, and improving relations with the community surrounding the farm.
